Why in the USA they rely on hemp fiber

It becomes even more urgent initiative profile association Ukrainian growers , aimed at amending the existing regulations , constraints at the moment the possibility for the most effective use is the fibrous part of the plant and, accordingly, the construction in the territory of Ukraine production capacity for primary and deep processing of hemp fiber .

The pages of the profile electronic publication of Ukrainian horse breeders have repeatedly focused on the fact that the most profitable agricultural crop provides the opportunity to receive significant financial resources when the country has created the capacity for its primary and deep processing . It is for this plant that the proverb “ hemp loves the“ long ”ruble ” is extremely relevant , which implies the receipt of added value in the case when hemp raw materials turn into the final product ,having gone through several redistributions ( seeds - oil - cosmetics or stem - trust - fiber- filament- fabric - textiles ).

Given the history of " How did jeans ", as well as the rapid development of processing capacity it trusts in the United States will be of interest to national growers logic of business development , which is prevalent in the US hemp market in addition to the general buzz around the possibilities for using the therapeutic properties of leaves and inflorescences of the hemp plant .

Analyzing certain trends in the US light industry market, it can be concluded that hemp fiber is on the way to becoming an effective and sustainable alternative to cotton , used in particular as the main raw material in the US light industry . This is evidenced by the number and frequency of statements by participants in the American market related to textile and knitwear production . Over the last year there is a significant increase in the number of publications in the mass media of the USA opinions entrepreneurs about the benefits of growing hemp is compared with cotton . Several aspects are at the forefront of the gradual replacement of hemp cotton .

Creative director of the brand of jeans and consulting company "Endrime" Sajid Mohsin during their speeches stressed that hemp fiber treated him as an alternative to cotton due to the positive impact that the plant has on the environment in the course of cultivation .

Janel Hannah, design consultant for White Wef, claims that “ Hemp is rightly presented as a wonderful fiber , and focusing on the potential of the plant as a regenerative culture . It is this plant that can solve many of the problems that currently exist with contaminated soil in the United States . In addition, hemp works well as a baking powder for non-cultivated soils for a long time and, among other things, is an excellent natural phytoremedian . ”

Zennure Danisman, marketing manager for Orta Anadolu, adds to the above that the example of using technical hemp as a phytoremedient in soils contaminated as a result of a man-made disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant suggests that this particular plant can significantly reduce soil toxicity.

During its cultivation, industrial hemp absorbs carbon dioxide much more than any other agricultural or forest crop, which means that growing a plant on an industrial scale can help offset CO2 emissions, thereby having a positive effect on solving problems related to the greenhouse effect.

Compared with cotton, growing water for industrial hemp crops requires less water and time for growth . In addition, hemp fiber can be processed in such a way that the fabric itself will be extremely soft and pleasant in terms of tactile sensations.

We can say that hemp is an attractive alternative to cotton because of the relatively low resources required for growing plants . For example, it takes about 2,600 gallons of water to produce 1 kilogram of cotton, compared to 80-130 gallons needed to grow the same amount of hemp .

According to a report by the Stockholm Environment Institute , commissioned by the Cymru Bioregional Development Group and the World Wide Fund for Nature, technical hemp “does not require serious care”. Hemp plant has a short growing cycle (about 100 days), compared with cotton, which is necessary for similar purposes up to 150 days. Since we observe a trend in the world , according to which the raw materials obtained as a result of the application of organic farming technologies are actively used , hemp boasts that it naturally does not contain pests and, therefore, there is no need to use pesticides for its cultivation .

Among other things, hemp raw materials can be effectively used not only for the production of fabrics . From it you can produce buttons, labels, labels, etc. Those. in fact, the final product can contain exclusively hemp constituents , which no other crop actively used in light industry can boast of . In particular, according to Laura Dixon , the owner of Three By One Europe, a design consulting company , “If you are thinking about the components of already made jeans, you can use fiber not only for fabric production . Buttons can be made from hemp biocomposites , as well as hemp paper labels and tags . There are many other details for the production of which the jeans industry can use hemp . ”

Among other things, hemp is an ideal technical culture for the United States , as it is possible to reduce or completely remove the logistics component in the supply chain . The plant can be grown in the same place where the yarn is made , later fabric is produced , and the final textile or knitted products are made from it . According to Ms. Dixon, “It makes sense to avoid supply chains where raw materials are grown in one part of the world , sent to another for processing , and then the resulting fiber is sent to the United States to produce fabrics or end products .”

Modern technologies allow not only to obtain soft and sufficiently strong hemp fibers , they provide an opportunity to use equipment and machinery used for the production of cotton fabrics for the manufacture of hemp products without any significant modification .

Despite the fact that at the moment hemp fabric is a more expensive product than cotton , however, problems related to price, quality, availability will be quickly resolved if a sufficiently high demand is formed at the end of the supply chain . It is hemp fiber that has a high potential for its attractiveness from the point of view of consumer properties , since hemp fabric and, accordingly, made from its products have huge antibacterial, antimicrobial properties , which is extremely positively perceived by the end user .

Commentary experts of the Association " Ukrainian industrial hemp "

Trends aimed at the gradual replacement of cotton by hemp have recently been observed in China and now in the USA and in the USA they suggest to national hemp growers that it is worth paying attention not only to the therapeutic properties of the plant. Hemp is a bast-fiber culture , and this field of use of the plant is an extremely interesting niche that national hemp breeders should pay attention to . Therefore, the initiative of the profile association of Ukrainian hemp breeders is becoming even more urgent , aimed at amending the current regulatory legal acts that currently hold back the possibilities for the most efficient use of the fibrous part of the plant and, accordingly, the construction of production facilities for primary and deep processing of hemp fiber in Ukraine .
