The US Congress approved the legalization of the use of technical hemp at the federal level

13.12.2018

US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue is more than pleased with the adoption of this regulatory act, already estimated at $ 800 billion, which, among other things, includes a method of supporting farmers under the "Program for the Poorest Americans." In his official letter, he notes that this law "provides a reliable security system for farmers and breeders involved in cannabis in the United States."

On December 12, the US Congress approved a draft law, according to which the cultivation of industrial crops of technical cannabis will become legal at the federal level in the country. In addition, realizing the need to eliminate absurd administrative barriers and creating the basis for a new “growing market,” cannabis is excluded from the list of controlled substances. Such changes to the current US regulatory framework were supported by both Democrats and Republicans, whose representatives lobbied for the adoption of this bill to diversify earning opportunities for American agricultural producers.

The above-mentioned changes to the current "Law on Agriculture" were adopted by the overwhelming majority of senators on December 11 and supported the next day by representatives of the American people in the US House of Representatives.

According to Republican leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell, "Today’s vote is the result of the work of many gathered here in Washington. However, this is an absolute victory for farmers and processors, producers and consumers who will soon receive tangible benefits from working in this exponentially growing market."

It is this law that recognizes cannabis as "an agricultural product and excludes the plant from the list of drugs and other controlled substances," explained Mr. McConnell. In addition, it also allows hemp researchers to apply for federal grants to the US Department of Agriculture and farmers to insure cannabis crops. "

Commentary of the Association "Ukrainian technical hemp"

At the moment, the amendments to the "Law on Agriculture" have not been signed by the US President, however, given the mood of the representatives of the Congress and the Senate of the country, as well as the comprehensive support of the Republicans in its adoption, there is no doubt that Donald’s signature will soon appear Trump As Mitch McConnell joked in the course of communication with representatives of the media, "I would be happy to lend my hemp pen to the president solely on this issue." It was this conservative, elected in the agricultural state of Kentucky, who was one of the main lobbyists for the adoption of this regulatory act, seeking from 2014 to sanction pilot programs aimed at the development of cannabis in individual administrative and territorial units of the United States.
