French "hemp plaster"

14.10.2019

A new innovative product has entered the building materials market , which is biodegradable plaster with hemp filler designed for both internal and external use. Parnatur Corps plaster is distinguished by its thermal, hygrometric and acoustic characteristics, which make the room more environmentally friendly and comfortable for life.

The pages of the profile electronic publication of Ukrainian hemp breeders indicated that " The history of hemp plaster has about one and a half thousand years ." The builders of Europe use the exclusive features of the plant everywhere , introducing innovative products based on the biological and mechanical properties of hemp plants . This material describes the French "hemp plaster", which can be applied to the surface by machine using both the inside and the outside surfaces of new and reconstructed rooms.

In France, since October of this year, a new innovative product entered the building materials market , which is biodegradable plaster with hemp filler designed for both internal and external use. Parnatur Corps plaster is distinguished by its thermal, hygrometric and acoustic characteristics, which make the room more environmentally friendly and comfortable for life.

Plaster manufacturers claim that Parnatur Corps is the result of many years of research and development related to the combination of building innovations and “long-forgotten hemp technologies” . As a result of research, 3 patents for a unique technology were obtained, two of which are associated with the preparation of binders and one with the technology of applying plaster. The stucco mixture is able to pass through the nozzles of a special machine designed for its spraying, which became possible after special grinding of hemp constituents and mixing them with a lime base. As a result, a two-component biological solution can not only be easily applied to any surface, but also withstand further certain mechanical and biological influences.

The company is confident that hemp is the one that can maximally replace any other filler, since this product is available in the required quantity, is easily renewable, has a number of unique and unsurpassed qualities that can be effectively used in construction . For effective and high-performance use of the building mixture, the company developed not only the technology of applying “hemp plaster”, but also a special set of tools consisting of a mixer, a 30-meter tube and a spray mechanism.

Construction market experts claim that this technological solution has the right to life and meets the real needs of the market. The fact is that cannabis production in France is 50 thousand tons, which is about half the hemp production in Europe . So far, only a tenth of hemp ingredients is used in construction , but this ratio can be easily changed by introducing modern bio-ecological technologies.

In Europe, they are quite conservative in the restoration and reconstruction of historical architectural monuments, which can only be restored using natural components that are as close as possible in composition to the original old materials. Hemp building materials in this case are just the way, because they allow you to create a unique breathing environment with its own thermoregulation and isolation from the effects of adverse factors. The maximum thickness of the plaster is about 80 mm, which allows you to additionally compensate for any contour defects and create not only a strong, but also attractive design.

One of the unique properties of “hemp plaster” is its hygrothermal. A surface with hemp constituents is capable of absorbing excess moisture and releasing it when the air becomes sufficiently dry. The product acts "like a natural conditioner": when the air is too hot, hemp is able to "evaporate the water" that it absorbs, thereby can slightly refresh the atmosphere. Conversely, when the air is too humid and cold, the hemp surface will generate heat through condensation of the absorbed water.

Hemp filler in plaster creates a sufficiently high porosity in the material, which ultimately positively affects the acoustic characteristics. Noise insulation of the wall with hemp-treated plaster at a thickness of 5 cm increases by an average of 53 dB.

Commentary of the Ukrainian Technical Hemp Association

Today, for the entire progressive part of the planet’s population, it is obvious that the transition to natural materials in construction will allow us not only to save the environment, but also to efficiently distribute resources for the further life of humanity. Issues related to various aspects of the use of hemp as an ecological, cost-effective building material , as well as raw materials for the production of furniture and biocomposite materials will be considered during the discussion at the round table " Hemp raw materials - technologies for its use in construction, production of biocomposite materials and furniture ", which will be held November 12 as part of the “ Hemp University ” on the basis of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.
