Fimea removes CBD products from Finland stores

14.02.2020

According to the EU Directive , all hemp plant extracts should be considered “new products ” containing cannabinoids, regardless of their quantity. Accordingly, since 2019 responsible for the question of the state structures of countries belonging to the European Union "tolerate" the new provisions of the European directory of food EU in its normative legal documents . Finland, as one of the member states of the European Union , implements its provisions in the domestic market in compliance with the relevant EU Directive .

On the pages of the profile electronic publication of Ukrainian hemp breeders , incidents of state structures of the USA Great Britain , as well as EU countries related to the mismatch of the marking / description of CBD products with their real therapeutic capabilities have been described more than once . The emphasis was on “ Why the FDA doubts the therapeutic properties of cannabidiol extract ”, for what reasons “The FDA requires removing the mention of therapeutic properties from the goods of another manufacturer of CBD products ”. This material describes the above trends that occur in another EU country -Finland .

The Finnish Food Administration has issued a decree according to which shops of retail / wholesale trade should remove products containing cannabidiol from their shelves because they do not have the appropriate license to sell this kind of product as a food product .

According to the Finnish Pharmaceutical Safety and Development Agency (Lääkealan turvallisuus- ja kehittämiskeskus Fimea) of Finland , cannabinoid extracts in the EU countries are classified as “new products ” and cannot be used as food products without special permits to sell such products . In addition, a document published by Fimea focuses on the fact that in relation to cannabidiol, the package should not indicate that the product has any medicinal effects.

Hamppumaa executives said it planned to sue the Finnish Food Authority for the decision to withdraw products manufactured by the Finnish CBD hemp product manufacturer from the country's market under the Sana brand name.

Commentary experts of the Association "Ukrainian industrial hemp"

Dietary supplements containing cannabidiol are currently sold in Finland's organic stores , despite the fact that Fimea classifies CBD oil as a medicine. Based on the logic of Fimea, Finnish residents who purchase CBD products online, as a result of such actions, fall into the gray zone of the current legislation of the country.

That is why Fimea issues relevant orders, binding on all business entities.

Peculiarities of sales of food products containing non-drug cannabinoids both in Ukraine and in economically developed countries were discussed in the framework of the round table “Nutrition and hemp” , held on the basis of “ Hemp University ”. The next training for students of the Hemp University will be held from April 7 to April 9, 2020 on the basis of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine .
